Soup Bowl Variations
There are 2 distinct sizes/styles of C&I soup bowls. The Early Style and the Late Style. The easiest way to differentiate between them is by the backstamp as virtually all soup bowls have backstamps. The early bowls have the letter / date codes on them or a blue or brown backstamp, the later bowls have a green backstamp without the date code. The physical difference in the bowls can be seen in the height of the bowl and the taper on the lip. The early bowls being 1 1/2" and the newer bowls 1 5/8" deep. There is also a variation on the images of the bowls. It is most noticeable in the length of the roof line to the left of the house. The length of the early version is 3/8" and the newer style 1/4".
